Line Bisgaard has just completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Rigshospitalet with a grant from the Danish Diabetes Academy.

Line’s project title was ‘Unraveling the role of apoM in diabetic nephropathy – implication of glycocalyx formation and S1P signaling on kidney fibrosis’.

We asked Line to reflect on her time as a DDA-funded researcher with seven questions.

What was a highlight in your time as a DDA-funded researcher?

One highlight was my 3-month research stay in Singapore. Another highlight has been to feel that I have matured both as a scientist and as a supervisor of both technicians and students.

What was a low-point in your time as a DDA-funded researcher?

Not to be able to get the permission to send samples for analysis in Singapore.

Who were your most important collaborators?

The Nephrology department at the Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet, and the SLING group in Singapore, where I had a 3-month research stay.

Which DDA event that you attended was your favourite, and why?

The DDA upstart meeting. You had the feeling of being part of something more than just your own project, and you could just feel the excitement in the room with all the projects that were about to start.

If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice before starting your research project, what would it be?

Maybe to try not to engage in too many things. But then again, this is also what I find fun – having a lot on my plate.

What is next for you?

I am currently employed as a researcher at Rigshospitalet, continuing the work initiated with the DDA grant.

Where do you hope to be in 10 years?

I hope that I am still working in the research field and have been able to establish myself as a specialist on lipids and kidney disease.
