Ageing is a major risk factor for diseases such as cardiometabolic disorders, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders, and as the human population ages, the burden of age-related diseases increases. Understanding the molecular intricacies of ageing informs disease prevention, personalized medicine, and strategies for healthier ageing – all of which have significant social and economic implications.
Recently, scientists have made tremendous progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of ageing, which involve a complex interplay between genetic mutations and cellular processes such as mitochondrial function. Yet, there is still much to uncover.
At this Science Cluster Lecture, the Novo Nordisk Foundation has invited 3 speakers working on some of the basic molecular and cellular processes, known to play an important role in the cellular ageing process. They will share recent data and engage in a discussion on the major challenges and emerging directions within this fascinating research field.
