This symposium/workshop will include a gap-analysis, highlighting the major limitations and barriers of what research has taught us so far in search for efficient treatments for diabetic neuropathy. We will focus on lessons learned from large clinical studies and implementation of current knowledge into clinical care while heading towards the formation of a new Whitepaper identifying novel clinical endpoints.
The clinical dilemma is that there is no efficient treatment for diabetic neuropathy, and clinical trials so far addressing underlying pathophysiological mechanisms show ambiguous results.
Thus, to identify new therapeutic targets and study designs, opinion-leading experts covering experience from the clinic, industry and research environments are brought together to discuss and participate in lectures and active workshops with the overall aim: To identify a clever way forward. The workshops will emphasize 1): Identification of clinical meaningful endpoints to promote new effective therapies; 2): How to move from bench to clinic? 3): The ideal vs. pragmatic study design? and 4): Identification of new targets.
The final outcome is a white paper, guiding future steps for the identification of efficient treatment for diabetic neuropathy. Younger colleagues, who are appointed as rising stars by the organizers and who contribute actively in preparing, conducting and writing the whitepaper will obtain co-authorship.
This symposium is intended for experienced clinicians, drug developers and researchers who share the vision of optimising treatments for diabetic neuropathy or conducting clinical trials addressing novel treatment mechanisms of diabetic neuropathy. 25 seats are reserved for invited participants working with neuropathy. There are 10 seats open for additional participants. Participants can apply for one of the open seats by submitting an abstract. Participants will be selected based on their abstract.
