The DDEA enhances the quality of Danish diabetes and endocrine research through four key activity areas: education and talent development, networking and collaboration, grants, and communication. Public and user involvement should be integrated into these activities in timely, relevant and appropriate ways. Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to develop ideas for relevant opportunities for public and user involvement in the work of the DDEA.
The workshop will include presentations and discussions on national and international practices as well as experiences, challenges and ideas for appropriate public and user involvement within the framework of DDEA.
‘Public involvement and outreach’ is one of DDEA’s strategic themes, with a purpose to facilitate collaborations between researchers and the Danish community. Furthermore, the DDEA enhances the quality of diabetes and endocrine research in Denmark through four key activity areas: education and talent development, networking and collaboration, grants, and communication. Public and user involvement should be integrated into these activities in timely, relevant and appropriate ways. Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to develop ideas for relevant opportunities for public and user involvement in the work of the DDEA.
Workshop discussions will culminate in a catalogue of ideas and written recommendations to DDEA’s boards, committees and secretariat. These recommendations are expected to be considered and used when posting grants for research, providing education and networking events and planning communications.

This workshop is intended for experts, researchers and clinicians working within any field of diabetes and endocrinology, including basic, translational and clinical research and/or interdisciplinary work within fields related to diabetes and endocrinology, as well as public involvement. In addition, we welcome the public with experience in conditions stemming from these fields to join the workshop, e.g. people living with a disease, their relatives or volunteers in NGO’s.
30 seats are reserved for invited participants from a variety of fields and with a wide range of experience in public and user involvement. Participants with a wealth of experience in public/user involvement and those with less or no experience, as well as users, are invited.
There are 5 seats open for participation by application. Prospective participants can apply for one of these open seats by submitting a statement of motivation on the registration form. Participants must represent areas within the DDEA scope, ranging from basic to psychosocial research, or be people living with a diabetic, metabolic or endocrine disease, their relatives or volunteers from NGO’s.
If the event is overbooked, the DDEA reserves the right to select participants based on the defined requirements.
The DDEA organises a networking dinner on 10 May 2023. Participation in the dinner is free of charge. Please sign up for the dinner upon registration, and indicate whether you have any dietary requirements.
The DDEA offers accommodation for all participants (check-in 10 May; check-out 11 May) at the workshop venue. For those coming from northern Jutland or a greater distance, DDEA will cover accommodation on the night before the workshop.

You will be informed about your overnight accommodation by the DDEA after the registration deadline.
Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the course however the DDEA will charge a no-show fee of 1000 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered from the course prior to its start.
