At this engaging one-and-a-half-day scientific networking event, we will explore diabetes through the lens of the bio-psycho-social model and a life course perspective.

The programme combines expert presentations, patient stories, and interactive sessions to foster collaboration and deepen understanding of how biological, psychological, and social factors interact across a person’s life.

The scientific programme will focus on:

• Frameworks and Shared Language: Introducing the Life Course Model and the Bio-psycho-social Model to establish a common understanding.
• Diabetes and the Brain: Exploring the connections between diabetes and the brain, including its impact on depression and distress.
• Psychosocial Areas in Diabetes: Addressing key topics such as stigma, diabetes psychology in type 2 diabetes, and disordered eating.
• Integrating Perspectives: Working with peers to synthesize insights from the Life Course and Bio-psycho-social Models, connecting them to your own research.
• Patient Perspectives: Gaining insights through firsthand stories from individuals living with diabetes.

Throughout the event, time is dedicated to networking and collaboration building across disciplines in Musholm’s beautiful, informal setting by the sea.

This scientific networking event is designed for early-career researchers and clinicians in biomedicine, diabetes, metabolism, and classical endocrinology, as well as those curious to expand their understanding of the psychosocial aspects in diabetes care and research.

We warmly welcome both early-career researchers with expertise in these areas and those with little or no prior knowledge or experience. Specialists or other stakeholders, seeking to expand their knowledge and professional network are also welcome to apply.

Participants will be selected based on a motivation statement submitted through the registration form, with clear and relevant motivation as the primary criterion. A genuine interest in participating and learning, even with limited prior knowledge in the area, is equally appreciated. Furthermore, we aim to ensure diversity within the group, considering factors such as research focus, gender, and geography.

Please note that you are not guaranteed a seat at the event if you do not meet the target group requirements. Priority is given to participants employed at Danish research and health institutions or in the life science industry. Early career researchers from abroad are welcome to apply. If the event is overbooked, the DDEA reserves its right to select participants based on the defined requirements.

Accommodation & meals
To support the event’s focus on networking, all participants are expected to stay at the venue during this period. The Danish Diabetes and Endocrine Academy will cover the cost of overnight accommodation and all meals for 12–13 March 2025.

Certification
A course certificate will be sent to all participants upon request at the end of the event.

Latest cancellation date & no-show fee
Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the event however the DDEA will charge a no-show fee of 1000 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered from the event by 25 February 2025.
