Role of Ageing in Health and Disease with a Focus on Endocrinology

Role of Ageing in Health and Disease with a Focus on Endocrinology

Join us at the DDEA PhD Course on the Role of Ageing in Health and Disease with a Focus on Endocrinology this September!

With this course, we aim to bring together PhD students in Denmark and from abroad for a scientific course that both deepens and widens your knowledge about ageing from an endocrinology perspective.

In the three-day course, you will

  • Learn and discuss endocrinology across the life span, including changes during ageing
  • Broaden and deepen your knowledge of this research area from different angles – clinical, basic, translational
  • Engage with cutting-edge, foundational science of the mechanisms of cellular ageing
  • Tackle challenges from the clinic such as male and female endocrinology as we age, side effects of hormonal treatments, and osteoporosis.
  • Connect clinical and basic research to demonstrate translational science, moving from the bench to the clinic
  • Attend lectures from leading experts in the field
  • Interact with speakers and other participants during and after the lectures.
  • Discuss your own research interests and projects while meeting other PhD students and becoming acquainted with their research projects and participating in group tasks together
  • Establish and expand a national and international network with peers and research leaders in the endocrinology of ageing

During the three-day intensive course, you will widen your scientific perspective in ageing and endocrinology research. You will also expand your professional network.

After an opening keynote lecture that will set the stage of the dynamic endocrine interplay in aging across the lifespan, each day will have a scientific session followed by other activities, including group work, poster sessions, and active networking with speakers and other PhD students. As we believe that interactivity improves learning outcomes, we expect you to be actively involved in the discussions with other participants and speakers throughout the event.

The programme includes scientific sessions on:

  • Ageing mechanisms
  • Challenges in the clinic
  • Translational science, implementation, interventions

Speakers:

  • Abigail Mackey, Clinical Professor, University of Copenhagen (DK)
  • Anette Tønnes Petersen, Associate Professor, Rigshospitalet (DK)

This course is open to PhD students working within or outside of Denmark, in any field of metabolism and endocrinology. We welcome PhD students in basic, translational, clinical or interdisciplinary research in fields related to endocrinology. Other early-career researchers  are also welcome to apply.

To apply for a seat, you must submit an abstract. If you are selected for participation, you are expected to present your project in a poster session and participate actively in the group work.

After the registration deadline, all applicants will be informed whether or not they have been allocated a seat. Notification will be by email from DDEA no later than the last week in June.

Due to the limited number of seats, you are not guaranteed a seat until you receive an e-mail with final confirmation from DDEA after the registration deadline. Seats in the course will be prioritized: 1) PhD student applicants with a relevant abstract, 2) all other early-career researchers with a relevant abstract.

In addition, several seats are reserved for DDEA grant recipients.

We welcome applicants from research institutions outside of Denmark, as we always reserve some seats for PhD students from outside of Denmark.

If the event is overbooked, DDEA reserves its right to select participants based on the defined requirements.

Accommodation
DDEA offers accommodation for all participants from 23-25 September 2025 at the course venue’s hotel.

You will be informed about your overnight accommodation by DDEA after the registration deadline when participants are selected by the organisers.
