This four-day hands-on course teaches you how to use the Promethion Core system for the metabolic and behavioral phenotyping of mice and rats. You will learn how to comprehensively phenotype rodents by combining indirect calorimetry with behavior measurements. Behavior measurements include food & water intake, wheel running, and general activities such as walking or resting. The use of accessory devices such as a metabolic treadmill and a stable isotope analyser will also be taught.
The High-Resolution Metabolic and Behavioral Phenotyping Course leads you through all steps of setting up and running Promethion Core; from calibrating and troubleshooting, to acquire data, through analysing and reporting the data. During the four days, you will listen to lectures as well as get hands-on experience:
Welcome and Orientation: Introduction to workspace, metabolic cages, and CGF
Classroom Lectures: Fundamentals of Respirometry
Hands-on Applications: System calibration and start collecting real data
Classroom Lectures continued: Behavioral and Metabolic Phenotyping
Supervised Data Analysis: Analyzing real-time data using Promethion Live, Introduction to MacroInterpreter
Hands-on Applications: Trouble-shooting, readdressing sensors, thermal cabinets, and continued data collection.
Additional Lectures: Sensor Function and Theory
Additional Lectures: Using MacroInterpreter for Data Analysis and Visualization
New Techniques and Approaches: Creating custom macros, heatmaps, and programs. Metabolic Treadmills, Stable isotope analysis, Methane measurement, and more.

Users actively using the system will be prioritized. Those who have plans to start using the system are also welcome to apply and explain their motivation.
Please note that you are not guaranteed a seat on the course if you do not meet the target group requirements. Priority is given to applicants employed at Danish academic research and healthcare institutions, but researchers from companies and from abroad are welcome to apply. If the event is overbooked, DDEA reserves the right to select participants based on the defined requirements and country and sector of employment.
DDEA organises a networking dinner on 6 March 2024. Participation in the dinner is free of charge for all course participants. Please sign up for the dinner upon registration, and indicate whether you have any dietary requirements.
DDEA offers accommodation (check-in 5 March, check-out 8 March 2023) for participants affiliated with academic research and healthcare institutions, and who live outside of the Copenhagen metropolitan area (in Denmark or abroad). DDEA does not cover accommodation for participants affiliated with a company.
Please indicate if you need accommodation when you register for the event. You will be informed about your overnight accommodation by the DDEA after the registration deadline.
DDEA does not cover transportation costs for any participants. Participants are expected to cover all transportation costs to and from the course venue.
A course certificate will be sent to all participants upon request at the end of the course. Full participation is required to attain the certificate.
