To enable an in-depth, immersive, and interactive learning experience, the course will consist of:

Live workshop
An interactive, one-day workshop in Copenhagen, during which you will get a chance to develop the skeleton of a would-be project you wish to write a grant proposal for.

Online material
Three-month access to on-demand, online pre-recorded video lectures, reading material and exercises after the workshop, which will guide you further in drafting a full proposal at your own pace.

After completing the course, you will be able to:

Understand funders
You will gain understanding of the funding landscape, funders’ typical evaluation processes and criteria, and commonalities and differences in focus and priorities.

Frame research projects
You will practice an effective framing approach that will enable you to: i) identify a focus and relevant context for the application, ii) develop clear purpose, aims, and impacts and understand the stakeholders that are affected by them, iii) map out the project’s main ingredients to achieve coherence.

Write successful grant proposals
You will learn an efficient technique to craft clear, coherent, complete, and compelling narratives within the tight confines of most grant application guidelines.

These techniques are generally applicable for any grant proposal, and their generality will be illustrated with specific guidance for drafting applications for funding from the Danish Diabetes and Endocrine Academy (DDEA) and Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF).

Pre-workshop preparation
All participants are asked to prepare (and bring to the workshop) a project/proposal title and brief abstract (max. 300 words) that describes the project’s rationale, purpose, aims, strategy, outcomes, and impact.

Before founding Elevate Scientific in 2012, Dan was an associate editor with Nature and Nature Physics. He holds a PhD in physics from Lund University (Sweden), and has conducted postdoctoral research in the USA and New Zealand.

You can participate in the course if you have the ambition to develop a grant proposal during the training. Participants have to think about a prospective project (they wish to secure funding for) and prior to the workshop draft a brief abstract (approx. 300 words) that describes the project’s rationale, purpose, aims, strategy, outcomes, and impact.

There are only 20 seats available for this course and participants are selected on first come, first served basis. Please note participation in the course requires some preparation prior to the workshop.

Accommodation
The DDA will offer accommodationfor participants from Jutland and Funen from the day before course start (7 February 2022). Please register for accommodation upon registration.

Certification
A course certificate will be sent to all participants upon request at the end of the course. Full participation is required to attain 1.6 ECTS points.

No-show fee
Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the course however the DDA will charge a no-show fee of 500 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered from the course prior to its start.
