“My experience with DDA has been that of a supportive environment with the specific aims of developing and promoting early-stage researchers as professionals in their fields. Importantly, as more PhD-holders move across different sectors, DDA has created plenty of opportunities for me to not only gain expert knowledge and research skills within the field of diabetes, but also crucial transferrable skills that include public speaking, organization, and innovation.
These workshops and other events DDA has put on (e.g. the Winter Schools) additionally created occasions for me to reconnect with colleagues as well as create new connections that I am now pursuing in relation to grant writing and commercialization of my research. I see DDA pushing the boundaries in how we train PhD-students and postdocs, making them better equipped to handle a multitude of tasks and careers that will characterize professionals in this century.”
