WHO CAN ATTEND?

The course is intended for PhD students, but we also welcome clinicians and researchers, at all levels working within any field of diabetes, metabolism and classical endocrinology, including basic, translational, clinical and interdisciplinary science, to attend.

Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis; however, PhD students and participants who submitted an abstract will be prioritised in the event the course becomes overbooked.

Please note that you are not guaranteed a seat at the course if you do not meet the target group requirements. Priority is given to participants employed at Danish research and health institutions or in the life science industry. If the event is overbooked, the DDEA reserves its right to select participants based on the defined requirements.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The first day of this two-day course will include lectures by leading experts in the fields. The scientific topics covered will include:

• Continuous glucose monitoring
• Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion
• Closed loop systems
• Advanced use of data from diabetes technology

Through a poster session, participants will be invited to present their current preliminary results and receive feedback from senior researchers. Posters are welcome from all areas and types of diabetes, metabolism and endocrinology research. To participate in the poster session, it is not necessary that your research is on diabetes technology.

Additionally, the first day will include a networking lunch to strengthen future diabetes research in Denmark.

The second day will include a workshop where students can get hands-on experience with some of the novel technologies presented at the seminar.

Through the course, participants will gain knowledge on:

• Clinical use of diabetes technology including pumps, continuous glucose monitoring and sensors
• What’s “hot” in diabetes technology research
• Hypoglycemia unawareness and how to deal with it
• Data-driven opportunities to assist and improve diabetes care
• Hands-on experience with novel and existing diabetes technologies

Abstract guidelines

Be sure your abstract contains the following information and adheres to the following formatting guidelines before submission.

You may download the abstract template here.

The abstract should be max 1500 characters incl. spaces and written in Arial 10.

• Title of abstract (Use a short and specific title with title-style capitalization and put it in bold)
• Presenting author name(s) (Underline the presenting author’s name)
• Affiliation (Include unit, institution/company/hospital, city and country for all authors and put it in italic)

The body of the abstract contains the following content: 

• Background and aim:
  Text in Arial 10
• Material and methods:
  Text in Arial 10
• Results (if obtained to-date)
  Text in Arial 10
• Conclusion (and perspectives)

No images, figures, charts or tables should be included in the abstract.
Please proofread carefully before submission and submit a word file.

(“Portrait format” is visually preferred)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Dinner registration

The DDEA organises a networking dinner on 23 November 2023. Participation in the dinner is free of charge. Please sign up for the dinner upon registration, and indicate whether you have any dietary requirements.

Accommodation

A limited number of hotel rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis for accepted participants who do not live in Aalborg and who register no later than 1 October 2023. Costs for one night accommodation (check-in 23 November, check-out 24 November) will be covered by DDEA. Please note that you will be informed about overnight accommodation by the DDEA after the registration deadline.

Certification

A course certificate will be sent to all participants upon request at the end of the course. Full participation is required to attain 1.5 ECTS points.

No-show fee

Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the course howeverthe DDEA will charge a no-show fee of 1000 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered from the course prior to its start.
